Cornerstone Laid at Piusa Border Guard Station

On June 15, 2015 the cornerstone ceremony was held for the new building compound of Piusa border guard station in Võmmorski Village, Võru County, which will be one of Estonia's land border control support points.

Piusa border guard station is a major investment in the Estonian-Russian border line aimed at improving the security of the external border of the European Union and NATO. Piusa station will be also an important base for the special unit of the border guard. The area of the three-storey main building and the auxiliary buildings of the compound is a total of more than 2,500 square meters. The renovation of Piusa station of will mark the completion of all Estonia's eastern border stations, and in addition, there will be decent living conditions for the people working at the Koidula border crossing point.

As the head designer of the project, Amhold performed the architectural, structural engineering and interior design, also heating, A/C, ventilation, water and sewage, electrical and weak current solutions. We also carried out engineering-technical and environmental surveys, solutions for roads, parking areas and landscape, and control engineering, security and surveillance systems. Amhold was also responsible for bill of quantities and will provide author supervision and consulting services for the client during the construction period.

The cornerstone laying ceremony was also attended by the President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Minister of the Interior Hanno Pevkur and the Director General of the Police and Border Guard Board Elmar Vaher.

The establishment of the new border guard station will cost approximately 4.6 million euros plus VAT. The construction works were started in March this year and the estimated completion is scheduled in spring of 2016.
