The city district (of Tallinn) Mustamäe on the 18th of March announced a design contest for a building complex - cultural centre and administration building – to be built on the address Vilde rd. 118.

The object for the contest is to achieve best possible architectural solution and at the same time get a project that considers the community needs and wishes in a design contest for a building complex that in addition to a cultural centre also includes an administration building for the city district Mustamäe.

The contest was won by the competition entry MAJAKAJA (=house echo) from architect firm BOA and AS Amhold. The opening of the anonymous entry envelope and the announcement of the winners was made on the 20th of June at 12.00 at the district administration of Mustamäe. The winning entry was created by architects Jürgen Lepper, Anto Savi and Margus Soonets.

The head of the City District of Mustamäe, Helle Kalda underlined in her speech how big a step this contest is for Mustamäe: ’Soon to be 55 years of age, Mustamäe has never had a real cultural centre - the present cultural centre Kaja was originally built as a cinema. Now we have finally taken a step further in the direction of building a real cultural centre.’
