KARISMA architects OÜ and AS Amhold – winners of the City of Rakvere Pikk Street and the surrounding cityscape architectural competition

A joint competition project of KARISMA arhitektid OÜ and Amhold Ltd titled as “Pikk muuseum” (authors: Risto Parve and Kai Süda) was recognised as the best among the concept designs that had been submitted to the Rakvere Pikk Street and the surrounding cityscape architecture competition.

The jury decided to give the concept design “Pikk muuseum” the first prize for the most comprehensive and creative solution that increases the quality of the cityscape of Rakvere. Mayor of Rakvere, Mihkel Juhkami said: “The authors of the winning concept design have qualitatively drafted a new street space, which simultaneously addresses all historical establishments in a respectful and attentive manner.”

Open design competition was organised for the purpose of finding a spatial solution for historical Pikk Street in Rakvere and the surrounding cityscape, in order to prepare a building design of the street on the basis of the solution. The solution of the public space is scheduled to be completed by 2020, at the latest.

The architectural competition took place within the framework of the EV 100 architecture programme “Great Public Space”, the purpose of which is to reactivate essential central areas in major Estonian centres. Re-organising the public space and making it more attractive and experience-based enable the people to use this space in a wider and more justified way.
